It's the most wonderful time of year! We are so excited to celebrate Christmas throughout Putnam County this month. From parades, to wreath classes, to church services, and more...there are so many ways to get in the holiday spirit throughout the month of December in Putnam County. Here is a list of some of the wonderful, festive events to help keep your spirits merry and bright:
Yuletide at the Park
Valley Park, Hurricane
Special events November 30-December 1
Lights Display November 30-December 26, 5:30-11pm
Visit Valley Park through November 30th through December 26th to enjoy a drive through their annual Christmas Lights Display from 5:30pm to 11pm each night. Putnam County Parks and Recreation has planned an exciting opening weekend for the annual Yuletide in the Park. On November 30th, they’ll have a tree lighting in the center courtyard at 5:30. Then, Putnam Princess Parties is hosting a Nightmare Before Christmas Party (tickets required: $15 children, $10 adult), and they’ll be showing the Nightmare Before Christmas movie ($3 adults, $1 children). On December 1st the Park is hosting photos with Santa, a live Nativity, horse and buggy rides ($1 per rider)(with Elsa and Anna for the first hour), a men’s chorus performance, Night Before Christmas reading with Santa, and they’ll be showing the Polar Express ($3 adults, $1 children). On December 2nd, you can attend the Celebration of Christmas service with Grace Life Church at Valley Park.
Letters to Santa in the City of Hurricane
At the Gazebo, Main Street, Hurricane
November 26-December 16th.
The City of Hurricane has placed a special postal box at the Gazebo on Main Street for sending Letters to Santa to the North Pole. Children can place their letter in the box with a self-addressed and stamped envelope, and Santa will reply with a special message!
Italian Grille Festival of Trees

Enjoy vintage and classic tree decor on display throughout December at Italian Grille. Dine with friends and family while surrounded by twinkling lights, color schemes of bygone days, and a variety of trees to help lift spirits.
Holiday Themed Play Dates & Kindermusik with So-Kai Kids Clubhouse

West Teays Elementary 18th Annual PTO Craft Fair
Liberty Square, Teays Valley in the old Magic Mart
December 1, 9am-3pm
This year’s craft fair will include over 120 vendors featuring art, jewelry, clothing, candles, wreathes, wood signs, primitives, and much much more. Admission is free.
Fresh Wreath Workshop
The Putnam Market, Hurricane
December 1 at 6pm
Each attendee will receive a fresh greens wreath along with other materials (red berry sprigs, trimmings, ornaments, etc.) to design a custom Christmas wreath for their front door. Food & drinks and extra time for shopping will also be a part of this spectacular event. (Fee $65)
MOMs Club of Teays Valley Winter Movie Series
Valley Park Conference Center, Hurricane
December 3 & December 21 at 9:30am
Bring a blanket and snacks and watch The Polar Express (December 3) or Arthur Christmas (December 21) on the big screen in Valley Park's beautiful new conference center. The showings begin at 9:30am and the cost of admission is $5 per family. Note: On December 3, they will be collecting items for a toy drive. The admission fee will be waived (December 3 only) for families who bring an item to donate (new toys please). Hosted by MOMS Club of Teays Valley in partnership with The Official Putnam County Parks & Recreation Commission.
Ornament Door Hanger Painting

Join RPS for this fun painting workshop. You’ll receive an 18X18 wooden hanging ornament, and you’ll be provided stensils, paint, brushes, and everything to make your ornament uniquely yours! (Fee $35)
Live Wreath Workshop

This workshop will include all items needed to create your wreath but you are welcome to bring any other items you would like to incorporate. They are also offering a Kissing Ball Class during their Live Wreath Workshop, where your child(ren) will get to make a special greenery Kissing Ball. They’ll also be playing a Christmas movie and serving light refreshments and snacks for the kids. Must be 4 years or older. (Wreath Class Tickets $50. Kissing Ball Tickets $10.)

The Nativity performed by the Macholah Ballet

Enjoy the story of the Nativity and the birth of Jesus told through classical ballet, featuring tasteful costuming, uplifting music, touching choreography and a team of ministry-minded dancers. Admission is free.
City of Hurricane Christmas Parade and Victorian Christmas
Main Street, Hurricane
December 8, Victorian Christmas Activities 1-3pm, Parade 4pm
Enjoy Victorian-themed Christmas activities from 1-3 pm to celebrate the City's 130th year (1888-2018)! Activities include horse & carriage rides, strolling Victorian Christmas carolers, card making, a Victorian photo booth, and an interactive reading of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol. Visit the Facebook event page for event details and locations. The City's parade, beginning at 4pm, will kick off at First Baptist Church on Main Street and end at Hurricane Middle School. Then, Santa will join everyone back at the Gazebo on Main Street to greet any children who would like to meet him!!

Catch a hayride with Santa hosted by the Hurricane Fire Department. Locations rotate starting with Monday's ride at Hurricane Town Elementary, Tuesday at Conner Street Elementary, and Wednesday on Main Street.
Walk Thru Bethlehem
Hometown Independent Mission Church

This is one of the most popular events of the year in Putnam County. In this interactive walk-through experience you'll see first century Bethlehem as you explore over two dozen authentic shops. Talk to shepherds and towns people. Watch a black smith, a potter, and bakers. See a shepherd tend to animals. Visit the newborn King in the manger. This is an outdoor event. Lines can be long (over 6,000 people visited last year), so dress warm.
Baking Sprits Bright
Putnam County Library-Main Branch, Teays Valley
December 13, 5-7pm
Join the Putnam County Library for a night with special events for kids and adults, all centered around the sweet treats we like to enjoy this time of year. Adults are encouraged to bring in pre-decorated gingerbread houses between Monday and the beginning of the event. Gingerbread houses will be judged and a winner will be declared. Children in attendance will be allowed to decorate their own gingerbread cookie with supplies provided. These will not be judged, simply eaten.
Drive through Live Nativity and Cocoa

Winfield Volunteer Fire Department Breakfast with Santa & Christmas Parade
December 15, Breakfast 8-11am, Parade 7pm
Santa will be stopping by the station in the morning for breakfast (including pancakes, sausage, juice, milk, coffee, and water), and he'll be sticking around for pictures (with your own devices). Breakfast tickets are $5 per person. Then in the afternoon, come experience this Christmas parade through the town of Winfield. Then join Santa immediately afterward at the Winfield Fire Department for cookies and hot cocoa. Festive Holiday Centerpiece Workshop

Many local churches are planning special Christmas services and performances, such as Christmas Sunday Nights at Teays Valley Presbyterian Church (December 2, 9, & 16), 13th Annual Christmas in the Valley at Teays Valley Nazarene Church (December 2), a Christmas Night of Worship at River Ridge Church-Teays Valley (December 7), a Christmas Concert at St. John’s United Methodist (December 19), a Birthday Party for Jesus at Winfield United Methodist (December 19), and a Christmas Eve Service at The Depot Church (December 24th). Check with the local church of your choice to find a great way to celebrate this season.

Bling in 2019 Black & White Ball
Valley Park, Hurricane

You're invited to "bling" in the new year with style at this black and white ball brought to you by Putnam County Parks & Recreation and The Lead Group. "Bling in 2019" is a premier gala style event complete with food, drinks, music, dancing, and more with proceeds benefitting The Lead Group Foundation and The Friends of the Park Foundation! They will roll out the purple carpet at the Valley Park Conference Center complete with Oscar style photo ops at 8pm where every attendee will receive a swag bag upon arrival. Heavy hors d’oeuvres featuring "The Taste of Putnam County", specialty cash bars, and dancing will begin at 9pm. Bravo Live DJ will be rockin' the dance floor playing 70s to today! Also, make sure to stick around until midnight for the balloon drop and champagne toast to 2019! Tickets available now! Must be 21 or over to purchase a ticket.
