The Putnam County Fair begins the second Saturday of July each year, and this year's fair is packed with fun activities for visitors of all ages. Here are a few things you won't want to miss.
Well-known acts like Joe Diffie and Mikele Black play on the two Saturdays, and additional bluegrass, gospel, and country acts play nightly.
2. Carnival Games and Rides
Children of all ages love the carnival games and rides. Don't miss the carousel, ferris wheel, and other perennial favorites included in your admission fee. Or try your chances at any of the games to see if you can win big.
3. Fair Food
We admit it - we have gone to the fair to sample the funnel cakes and deep fried Oreos, and we know you have too. Corn dogs, BBQ, and deep-fried everything offer nostalgic tastes.
4. The Animals
Cattle, rabbits, and goats, oh my! Check out the local 4-H raised livestock. Just don't get too attached, since they are auctioned throughout the week.
5. Motor Sports
Many folks may not know that the fair offers motorsports all week - from a kids pedal-poweredtractor pull to motocross. Check the schedule to learn more.

If you still want to get outdoors despite the cooler temperatures, Putnam County is home to two standout disc golf courses - Valley Park in Hurricane and Eleanor Park in Eleanor. Eleanor Park is also home to miles of hiking/biking trails to get you off the beaten path.

Yuletide at the Park

Lights Display November 30-December 26, 5:30-11pm
Visit Valley Park through November 30th through December 26th to enjoy a drive through their annual Christmas Lights Display from 5:30pm to 11pm each night. Putnam County Parks and Recreation has planned an exciting opening weekend for the annual Yuletide in the Park. On November 30th, they’ll have a tree lighting in the center courtyard at 5:30. Then, Putnam Princess Parties is hosting a Nightmare Before Christmas Party (tickets required: $15 children, $10 adult), and they’ll be showing the Nightmare Before Christmas movie ($3 adults, $1 children). On December 1st the Park is hosting photos with Santa, a live Nativity, horse and buggy rides ($1 per rider)(with Elsa and Anna for the first hour), a men’s chorus performance, Night Before Christmas reading with Santa, and they’ll be showing the Polar Express ($3 adults, $1 children). On December 2nd, you can attend the Celebration of Christmas service with Grace Life Church at Valley Park.
Letters to Santa in the City of Hurricane

The City of Hurricane has placed a special postal box at the Gazebo on Main Street for sending Letters to Santa to the North Pole. Children can place their letter in the box with a self-addressed and stamped envelope, and Santa will reply with a special message!

This is one of the most popular events of the year in Putnam County. In this interactive walk-through experience you'll see first century Bethlehem as you explore over two dozen authentic shops. Talk to shepherds and towns people. Watch a black smith, a potter, and bakers. See a shepherd tend to animals. Visit the newborn King in the manger. This is an outdoor event. Lines can be long (over 6,000 people visited last year), so dress warm.
Baking Sprits Bright

Join the Putnam County Library for a night with special events for kids and adults, all centered around the sweet treats we like to enjoy this time of year. Adults are encouraged to bring in pre-decorated gingerbread houses between Monday and the beginning of the event. Gingerbread houses will be judged and a winner will be declared. Children in attendance will be allowed to decorate their own gingerbread cookie with supplies provided. These will not be judged, simply eaten.

Santa will be stopping by the station in the morning for breakfast (including pancakes, sausage, juice, milk, coffee, and water), and he'll be sticking around for pictures (with your own devices). Breakfast tickets are $5 per person. Then in the afternoon, come experience this Christmas parade through the town of Winfield. Then join Santa immediately afterward at the Winfield Fire Department for cookies and hot cocoa. Bear Wood Fairy Trail
Enjoy a stroll through this magical fairy trail this fall. The young and young at heart will enjoy discovering nearly 100 fairy doors hidden along this trail. The doors were painted by local artists and cut and designed by Bear Wood Company. The trail begins just above the lower pond, passes under the covered bridge, and ends at the uncovered bridge.

This year, Putnam County Parks and the City of Hurricane are joining together to bring you and your family an entire day of fun to celebrate our great nation’s birthday! Start your day at Valley Park with a variety of family activities and end at Hurricane City Park with fireworks! See below for the full schedule.
10 a.m. – Ninja Warrior Obstacle Competition at the Valley Park Lawn
11 a.m. – The Wave Pool at Valley Park opens
11 a.m. – 3 p.m. - Music, food, kids’ activities, and more will be at Valley Park.
4 p.m. – 4th of July parade on Main Street in Hurricane
5 p.m. – Inflatables, games, food and more at the Hurricane City Park
6 p.m. – Zack Shelton and 64 to Grayson performs at the main stage in Hurricane City Park
7:30 p.m. – Sheetz Hot Dog Eating Contest at the main stage in Hurricane City Park
8 p.m. - Cody Wickline performs on the main stage in Hurricane City Park
10 p.m. – Fireworks will begin at Hurricane City Park.
